Short editorial review of the Ocean Master 31 fishing boat

First of the big outboard-powered center consoles, the Ocean Master 31 is a classic canyon fisherman with a production record (over 400 built to date) unmatched by the competition. These boats have a well-known reputation for being seriously overbuilt: the hull is laid up with 20 layers of solid fiberglass, and the inner liner is glassed directly to the stringers and hullsides.

Angler Friendly

Designed for the serious angler, the deck layout boasts 90 square feet of space aft of the console and a large casting platform forward-enough room for four or five people to fish. With her large 310-gallon fuel capacity, long runs offshore ranging from 300 to 400 miles are all in a normal days work for the 31.

Continuous Improvement

Note that the hard chines were reconfigured in 1993, softening amidships and running all the way to the transom for a dryer ride. In 1995 the deck was retooled, raising the sheer about 3 inches to form a deeper cockpit, and in 1998 the chines were widened and reversed, and the cockpit was completely redesigned with an insulated fish box forward and an in-deck live well aft.

The graceful sheer of the Ocean Master 31 makes her one of the better-looking center consoles her size on the market. Twin 225-hp Mercury outboards will top out at around 40 knots.
